RFENC: What brought you to Rowell Family Empowerment?
Kendall Benton-Flexer: When we moved to California, I came to Rowell to learn more about the systems that would have an impact on us. After taking a webinar, meeting the trainer and talking with a parent consultant, I wanted to become more involved. I jumped when I had the opportunity.

RFENC: What, in your opinion, is the most valuable thing you could tell a new parent?
KBF: Umm, there’s a couple things… That it will be life changing, but in the most incredible way. They’ll learn things about themselves they didn’t know, didn’t know they could do. And to cherish this gift, that is our children, because not everyone gets to see this wonderful world that we do.

RFENC: What kind of activities do you enjoy?
KBF: I like projects. I to build stuff, I like to paint stuff and I like to put things together. I wish I had a shop out back so I could build stuff.

RFENC: In your life who is touched by diverse ability?
KBF: Cameron, who is 8 and was diagnosed with autism when he was 2. Aiden who is 7 and has a learning disability.

RFENC: What’s your philosophy on life?
KBF: Do I have to have one? (laughing) I gotta think about it.

RFENC: If you won $2 million what would you do with it?
KBF: I would love to have a property, that all our family and friends could enjoy and spend time together. Similar to our family cabin that we had growing up. Outside of that, nothing grand.

RFENC: If a crow with only one wing is flying North in the winter at an average speed of 10 MPH, how long would it take to drive to Cuba?
KBF: I think there’s a lot of variables there. Are they driving a boat? Winter means different things because you never know, with a good storm system he could be there very quickly. So I’d need more information. (laughing)
